The Higher Certificate in Office Administration aims to provide students with the knowledge and practical skills required to perform effectively as an Office Administrator. Office Administration is the core and the engine room for effective management and operational support. This qualification thus enables students to become skilled office administrators who can contribute and complement management activities. On successful completion of the programme, graduates will be able to pursue
an administrative position at an entry level in all sectors of industry. Students qualified in this field of study will
be able to provide competent and effective management support in the form of administrative services.

The purpose of the Higher Certificate: Office Administration is to prepare students for a career in business or to access higher levels of business management studies. This qualification primarily prepares the student with basic business and office administration skills at the operational level and with the basic introductory knowledge, cognitive and conceptual tools for further higher education studies in the chosen field of study.

 

This qualification signifies that the student is capable of applying operational knowledge and competence in the role of an entry level junior business administrator. This Higher Certificate qualification reinforces the student’s technical knowledge and competence with the inclusion of work integrated learning.

  • A National Senior Certificate (NSC) with an endorsement for admission to a Higher Certificate
  • The National Certificate Vocational (NCV) at NQF Level 4 with appropriate combinations of recognised subjects and levels of achievement
  • Further Education and Training (FET) NQF Level 4
  • Mature age exemption for people above the age of 23 years as set out in the Higher Education Regulations.
  • Recognition of prior learning (RPL).

  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the legal environment for sound business practices

  • Demonstrate the ability to identify and formulate communication needs, contribute in developing communication tools and be able to communicate and disseminate information in context of the business office environment
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the concepts and principles of Accounting policies and practices and to understand the importance of bookkeeping in the office environment
  • Understand the role of marketing, finding marketing opportunities, the marketing mix, and controlling marketing plans and programmes.
  • Demonstrate Knowledge and an understanding of fundamental information systems concepts in the business environment such as Communication, Data Management, Data Presentation, Security and Privacy
  • Demonstrate knowledge and the ability to function in a multidimensional office environment with other employees
